Trails and Walking Paths

Parks 3Parks and Trails

Green space is at the centre of life in Drayton Valley. Parks and open spaces allow residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors, whether they’re relaxing after work  or pursuing an active lifestyle. Our parks also have modern and safe playground equipment for children. Parks and open spaces afford the community an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors at a leisurely pace or while pursuing an active lifestyle.  Drayton Valley has ten designated parks and playgrounds and five school playgrounds with top-of-the-line equipment. Many of the parks have beautiful gazebos, most are accessible from the walking paths and all of the parks are equipped with benches. For a wide variety of activities, from a leisurely picnic in the park or an energetic romp in the splash park on a warm summer’s day, Rotary Park is centrally located and provides an ideal gathering place

Walking PathWalking Paths

Fourteen kilometres of paved walking paths wind through the town’s parks, quiet residential areas and open spaces. The walking path is expanding as development progresses. It is an integral part of the town’s infrastructure development. The paths are lit, with benches along the way. Some walking paths lead into the Brazeau County countryside. Open spaces and parks are located throughout the town, so all residents can easily access them. The walking trails connect all of the parks to one another.

The Town of Drayton Valley has four ponds: the Ivan To Park, Southview Pond, Aspenview Pond and Park, and Northview Pond and Park. Northview Pond is a popular toboggan hill in winter months.

Outdoor RecreationThe Rotary/Pembina Nordic Community Trails

There are beautiful trails open for year-round use for cycling, walking or running in the summer and for cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter.  The trails range from less than 1 km to almost 3 km, so there’s a variety for everyone. Click here for more information.

Trail riding is a relaxing way to get away from it all. Outfitters in the area would be pleased to take you on a customized horseback tour to see Drayton Valley’s beautiful surrounding scenery. The Riverside Horse Trails, operated by the Drayton Valley Horse Club, are groomed trails that meander along the banks of the Pembina River and through meadows of wildflowers. Staging areas and campsites are also available.

Monthly meetings of the Drayton Valley Horse Club are held on the first Tuesday of every month. The annual Trail Ride for Cancer is held on the first Sunday in May. On the third Sunday of June, the Drayton Valley Horse Club hosts the annual horse show. For more information contact Nancy Jacobs at 780-542-4339 or 780-542-0394.

Drayton Valley Golf ClubGolf Course

The Drayton Valley Golf and Country Club is a full, 18-hole course with a Par of 71. The in-house golf pro would be pleased to give you pointers. He can be found at the Pro Shop. Only five minutes out of town, the Drayton Valley Golf Course offers rentals, a practice putting green and a licensed restaurant.

Visit their website: www.draytonvalleygolf.com/

This course is quite forgiving in its layout, featuring broad fairways and large, rolling, bentgrass greens. However, golfers might experience some difficulty maneuvering around the large water hazard that crosses the 3rd and 4th fairways. Some care is also required to avoid the thick growths of birch and spruce that line most of the holes on the course.

Drayton Valley’s most difficult hole is also its longest. The 554 yard-long 14th hole requires the utmost accuracy off the tee to hit the landing zone, which is trapped between a small pond and thick trees. This opens up to a narrow fairway with trees on either side, making a hook or slice very costly.

Golf course amenities include a snackbar/coffee shop, tee-time reservations and rain checks, club, pull-cart and cart rentals, junior rates, indoor and outdoor patios and barbecue facilities. After your round, make sure to take advantage of the course’s fine restaurant.

Public tee times are from dawn to dusk, seven days a week from April to October. A dress code is always in effect. Soft spikes only, please. They accept MasterCard, VISA and Interac.
