Trespassing Agent Program

Trespassing is a common issue faced by property owners, which can result in property damage, theft, and other unlawful activities. To combat this issue, Drayton Valley Enforcement Services, in partnership with the Drayton Valley RCMP has implemented a Trespassing Agent Program that allows local law enforcement agencies to act as agents in accordance with provincial trespassing legislation.
The main purpose of the program is to provide Drayton Valley Enforcement Services (Security, Bylaw Officers, and Peace Officers) and police officers with the RCMP, with the authority to act as agents of property owners and occupants in cases of trespassing, as per provincial legislation. This means that the law enforcement officers can act on behalf of the property owner and occupant and take necessary actions to prevent, investigate and response to trespassing incidents on private property. Property representatives who sign up for the Agent program give Enforcement Services and the RCMP the authority to come onto their property and engage with trespassers. It allows the law enforcement officers to act without having to contact property owners.
The program is implemented through a formal agreement between Enforcement Services and the property representative. This agreement outlines the roles, responsibilities, and authorities of law enforcement officers acting as agents of the property in cases of trespassing.
This program has several benefits for property representatives, law enforcement, and the overall community. Some of the key benefits include enhanced protection of private property, increased deterrence, efficient response to trespassing incidents, upholding property owner’s rights, collaboration between law enforcement and property representatives, and court attendance not reduced or not required for property representatives.
