Community Safety

Community Safety Committee

At the beginning of 2026, the Community Safety Committee established its priorities for the next two years to guide long-term goals and objectives while remaining responsive to emerging community concerns.

Through the strategic planning process, six key priority areas were identified: Education and Prevention, Traffic Enforcement, Mental Health, Housing, Crime Prevention, and General Law Enforcement Activities.

Policing Committee

The Town of Drayton Valley’s Policing Committee helps strengthen local oversight and communication between the community, Council, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Created under recent changes to Alberta’s Police Act and related regulations, the Committee works to support effective policing and community safety in Drayton Valley.

Following provincial approval in 2025, the Town established its own Municipal Policing Committee rather than joining a regional committee. All appointed members must pass an enhanced provincial security clearance. Click here to learn more.

CCTV

The Town of Drayton Valley has launched a safety initiative by installing CCTV cameras in select outdoor public areas to help enhance security and create a safer environment for residents and visitors.

Cameras are currently installed at:

  • 4S Skateboard Park
  • Team Auctions Centre
  • 50 Street & Hwy 22 North
  • 50 Street & Hwy 22 South
  • 50 Avenue & Hwy 2

These cameras are not actively monitored. However, in cases of vandalism or reports of suspicious activity, approved staff may access footage and take appropriate action.

Council has approved a policy outlining:

  • signage requirements
  • footage retention periods
  • disclosure requirements
  • access restrictions
  • and other operational guidelines

The Town is committed to protecting public spaces and infrastructure while balancing public safety with individual privacy rights.

As public information is being collected, the Town operates in compliance with the Access To Information Act (ATIA). Footage may only be accessed by authorized Town employees and may be provided to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police upon request as part of an official investigation.
