CCTV
The Town of Drayton Valley will soon be implementing a new safety initiative by installing CCTV cameras in select outdoor areas.
This proactive measure aims to bolster safety and security within these spaces, fostering a safer environment for all patrons.
The initial designated areas where cameras are being installed include:
- 4S Skateboard Park
- ARC Bark Park
- Rotary Park
- Omniplex Parking Lot
These initial locations were chosen based on historical incidents of vandalism and a documented history of violations of the law.
Our primary goal is to enhance the overall safety of these spaces, ensuring that residents and visitors feel secure while enjoying outdoor town properties.
While these cameras are not actively monitored, in the event of vandalism or reports of suspicious behaviour, video from the cameras may be accessed by approved staff, and appropriate action taken.
A policy has recently been approved by Council that includes signage requirements, retention periods, disclosure requirements, and access restrictions, amongst other items.
The Town of Drayton Valley is committed to maintaining the integrity and safety of our town infrastructure for the benefit of the entire community.
The Town of Drayton Valley recognizes the need to balance an individual’s right to protection of privacy against the city’s duty to promote a safe environment for all citizens, and to protect Town property. Recognizing that public information is being gathered, the Town of Drayton Valley is operating in compliance with FOIP. The data gathered can accessed by authorized Town employees and turned over to the RCMP upon request as part of official investigations
