Protective Services

Drayton Valley is a 911 community.

Law Enforcement
In 1998, the town enhanced the province-wide, 911 emergency-call system to better serve its citizens. Dialing 911 will enable residents to access any emergency service 24 hours a day.

Drayton Valley is served by a 16-member local detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police comprised of six municipal and five rural members and is lead by a Staff Sergeant. Drayton Valley also has a Community Constable.

Community Policing

The community of Drayton Valley and the RCMP support the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program. DARE is a drug abuse prevention and education program designed to educate elementary, middle and high school children about the consequences of abuse. It also teaches them skills for resisting peer pressure. DARE involves schools, police and parents.

Drayton Valley Fire Department
The fire department started around 1955 with a volunteer fire chief and approximately ten firefighters. The department used an old truck with a triplex pump that was later used for street flushing.

The very first pumper, a 1956 Ford with a 625gpm pump and a 500-gallon tank, was driven all the way back to Drayton Valley from Ontario. This unit is still housed in the fire hall and is officially registered as an antique.

It was replaced by a 1978 Ford C900 with a 840gpm pump and a 500-gallon tank. In 1981, the department added a Ford 350 cargo-van rescue-truck to its fleet. 1994 saw the addition of a very modern, custom-equipped Volvo F43 with a 1250gpm pump and a 500-gallon-tank fire truck. Other safety equipment includes a boat, a rescue unit, a bush truck and a water tank. The water tank was purchased by Brazeau County.

The new millennium saw the development of multi-storey residential buildings. To meet the new, fire-safety demands, Town Council approved the purchase of a new, 75-foot-ladder, fire truck. The vehicle was delivered in June, 2003. The Department is now equipped with three fire engines: one pumper, one aerial and one rescue truck.

Fire Truck

Fire protection staff in the region includes a full-time Fire Chief, a Training and Safety Officer and more than 30 volunteer firefighters. Through a Joint Operation Agreement, the fire department also provides fire service throughout Brazeau County.
