Other Recreational Facilities
There are many outdoor recreational facilities in Drayton Valley for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Drayton Valley’s Skateboard Park was constructed in 2002, and was immediately occupied by young boarders, rollerbladers and spectators. Initiated by a group of enthusiastic young people, the skateboard park received funding and in-kind contributions from local fundraising, various corporate sponsors, the Town of Drayton Valley, the County of Brazeau and the Province of Alberta. The park cost approximately $80,000 to construct and it is a fine example of a community “Pulling Together.”

The park features a variety of ramps and is open to all ages and abilities. It is located next to the Omniplex parking lot.

The 55+ Recreation Centre provides seniors who are 55 years of age and older an opportunity for recreation. The centre offers floor curling, various card games, billiard tables, potlucks, Sunday brunches and various social gatherings. The facility is also available for other senior functions such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Drayton Valley has ten designated parks and playgrounds and five school playgrounds with top-of-the-line equipment. Many of the parks have beautiful gazebos, most are accessible from the walking paths and all of the parks are equipped with benches. For a Sunday afternoon picnic, the Lions Rotary Park located on the west side of town is a great choice for a Sunday afternoon picnic.

The town of Drayton Valley has three ponds: the Southview Pond, Aspenview Pond and Park, and Northview Pond and Park. All are used in the winter for outdoor skating. Northview Pond is a popular toboggan hill in winter months.

Several baseball diamonds are available at the Lion’s West Valley Park and at all of the schools. To book a baseball diamond, contact the Omniplex at 780-514-2234. Rental Fees are subject to change. There are also soccer fields located in Drayton Valley’s school grounds.

There are two tennis courts in the town: one is located in Rotary Park adjoining the Park Valley Pool at 5030 – 48 Street. The second is on Madsen Avenue, behind the Drayton Valley Hospital Complex. Nets are provided.

Trail riding is a relaxing way to get away from it all. Outfitters in the area would be pleased to take you on a customized horseback tour to see Drayton Valley’s beautiful surrounding scenery. The Riverside Horse Trails, operated by the Drayton Valley Horse Club, are groomed trails that meander along the banks of the Pembina River and through meadows of wildflowers. Staging areas and campsite are also available.

Monthly meetings of the Drayton Valley Horse Club are held on the first Tuesday of every month. The annual Trail Ride for Cancer is held on the first Sunday in May. On the third Sunday of June, the Drayton Valley Horse Club hosts the annual horse show in June. For more information contact Nancy Jacobs at 780-542-4339 or 780-542-0394.

Other recreational organizations in the area include the Brazeau Snowmobile Club, Brazeau Bowbenders Archery Club, Evergreen Shooting Club, Pembina Nordic Ski Club, Valley Model Aeronautics Association and the Drayton Valley ATV Club.
