Services
Today, the Drayton Valley Municipal Library offers a variety of services to the community. It is for this reason we use the slogan, “More than just books.” Special sections and types of reading material include the following:

  • Children’s section (story books, non-fiction books, children’s DVDs)
  • Children’s books, tape sets and CD-ROMS
  • Junior and Young Adult section includes audio books and music CDs
  • Fiction in both hardcover and paperback
  • Best-sellers selected from the Publisher’s Top 10 list
  • Large print books for seniors and the visually impaired
  • Full-length books on tape, provided by the CNIB
  • Non-fiction collection, “from astrology to zoology”
  • Reference books
  • Alberta telephone directories
  • Audiovisual material (audiotapes, CDs, Books on Tape, DVDs, Video tapes and CD-ROMs)
  • Magazines subscriptions. Many organizations also forward free copies of their publications.
  • Newspapers, including the Drayton Valley Western Review, the Edmonton Journal and the Financial Post, Weekend Edition
  • Three Internet stations for public use
  • Internet searching services (print-outs available at 25¢ per page)
  • E-mail service is only provided through third party hosts

A magazine index is also available at the library, which provides articles on a variety of subjects. The library supplements this index by having access to full-text articles from over 1,500 magazines online. We are able to provide copies of articles, even if the library does not subscribe to the magazine.

Any material not available in the library collection can be requested through the Inter-Library Loan (ILL) from another library. This service is available to

As a member of The Alberta Library (TAL) and the Yellowhead Regional Library, members receive the added value of the TRAC card. With this card, you can borrow items from any public, college or university library in Alberta and return them to your home library. Full details are available at the library.

Phone: 780-514-2228.

Books, books on tape and audiotapes can be borrowed for a period of 21 days. Magazines, CD-ROMs and videotapes can be taken out for one week. Membership is required, though membership is free.
