Emergency Preparedness

An emergency or disaster can occur at any time. The Town of Drayton Valley is prepared to respond to several disasters and emergencies.

Emergency Public Warning System

Alberta has a broadcast warning system that is used to warn the public of a life-threatening emergency or disaster. The Emergency Public Warning System (EPWS) is the only system in North America designed to give local government officials the ability to broadcast an emergency warning directly to radio, cable and television. The EPWS is more than a severe weather warning system. In fact, the EPWS can be used for warnings of any type of disaster (e.g. wildfire, floods and water contamination). The EPWS operates at no cost to municipalities or broadcasters. The Town of Drayton Valley, and other communities in Brazeau County, are part of the Edmonton-region EPWS.

Major Police Forces in the province can also activate the EPWS to issue an AMBER Alert in the event of abduction where police believe a child's life may be in immediate danger.
